Fingerprint Cards AB (FPC) develops biometric components that can read fingerprints. The technology can be used to identify people and is expected to become extremely important for future mobile phone identification. It can also be used in products for IT and Internet security, entry control, etc.
The Japanese company Fujitsu has recently released the first smart mobile incorporating FPC's technology.
The user can then avoid the need for passwords, enabling simpler logging in for online banking and shopping, for example. More mobile phone manufacturers are working to integrate FPC's sensors in their phones and tablets.
FPC has been a member of the Mobile Heights innovation arena in Lund since May 2013. Jӧrgen Lantto, Executive Vice President and also responsible for development as well as strategy and product management, explains why FPC became a member:
"Due to the fantastic traction we have achieved on the market by advancing the optimum technology for fingerprint sensors for mobile units, we have decided to speed up our development work. We are now continuing our expansion in Lund, where world-leading expertise within mobile technology is available and where leading OEMs have a strong R&D presence. Thanks to our membership of Mobile Heights and activities aimed at driving forward the ecosystem, we intend to contribute to the further integration of fingerprint reader technology for new units and solutions."
After the company joined Mobile Heights, they have opened a Malmö branch in the Västra Hamnen (Western harbour) district. They anticipate employing around 70 people in the Malmö office.
